About us

The Made in Mullaitivu initiative represents more than a brand; it is a movement of empowerment and cultural preservation. Launched by the Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) and the North and East Economic Development Centre (NEED Centre), this initiative empowers women artisans across the Northern and Eastern regions of Sri Lanka, offering them a path to financial independence through the ancient craft of handloom weaving. What started with a vibrant fashion show in 2020 has grown into a global platform. With the opening of our first showroom in Mullaitivu, we are creating new opportunities for local artisans to share their craft with the world.

In the northern and eastern regions of Sri Lanka, where the echoes of war are still felt, courageous women are turning threads into hope. The Made in Mullai handloom initiative is created to empower women. Through handloom weaving, an ancient craft passed down for generations, we are rebuilding their lives, finding independence, and reigniting a sense of purpose. With comprehensive training programs, we equip these women with the skills to master this craft, giving them not only a source of income but a pathway to dignity and pride.

Each handloom saree they create is more than just fabric—it’s a story of resilience, tradition, and renewal. These sarees blend the timeless beauty of craftsmanship with modern fashion trends, making them relevant and desirable to people around the world. Through Made in Mullaitivu, we are not only preserving cultural heritage but also connecting local talent with a global audience, ensuring these creations reach markets far beyond Sri Lanka's shores.

By supporting this initiative, you are doing more than buying a beautiful piece of clothing—you are standing with these women on their journey toward financial independence. You are helping to weave stories of hope, empowering them to create a brighter future. Together, we are transforming lives and ensuring that the art of handloom weaving, and the incredible women behind it, continue to thrive on the global stage.
